What Households Say
The record speaks for itself. So do the households who have one.
We have worked with households across Kuala Lumpur since 2017. What follows are accounts from some of the households we have served — in their own words and at their own pace.

We had my late mother-in-law's household to sort through after she passed, and honestly did not know where to begin. The team from Almanac Ash spent a full day with us recording the furniture, artwork, and jewellery. What surprised me was how unhurried they were — they waited while we talked about certain pieces and wrote down what we told them. The booklet they produced is something we now refer to regularly. I wish we had done this years earlier.

We signed up for the Document Cataloging Project after spending three frustrating weekends trying to find my father's property records. Wei-Lin and her colleague were methodical — they did not rush and were clear about what they were recording and what they were not doing. The catalog folder is now kept in one place and my siblings all know where to find it. It took three sessions spread over about six weeks. Worth every ringgit.

I am on the Annual Refresh programme now in its second year. The quarterly visits are low-key — maybe two hours each — and I always end the year with an updated booklet. What I have noticed is that the process has changed how I think about what we bring into the house. Knowing everything will be recorded makes you more deliberate. A small but real benefit I did not expect.

I contacted Almanac Ash after reading about them. I was not sure what to expect — I thought it might feel intrusive having someone come through our home and note things down. It was not like that at all. Azizah asked before entering each area and explained each step. The booklet arrived printed and labeled. My husband and I spent an evening going through it. It was a good evening.

We did the Document Cataloging Project for my parents' household, which they had lived in for over forty years. There were employment records going back to the 1980s, property papers, and various account statements that nobody had ever organized. The team was thorough — three sessions over about eight weeks. My parents now have a folder that covers everything. The printed catalog is clear enough that they can find what they need themselves.

The Household Inventory Session was straightforward. Suresh arrived on time, explained what he would be doing, and worked his way through the rooms we pointed him to. He was good at listening — when I mentioned that a particular cabinet had been in the family since my grandmother's time, he noted that down alongside the physical description. The booklet has that detail in it. That matters to me.

Case Studies
Three households, three different situations
Each household came to us with a different need. What they share is that they now have a printed record they can use.
Challenge
Settling a multigenerational household after a parent's passing
Three adult siblings needed to divide a Kuala Lumpur household that had been occupied for over thirty years. No written record of the household's contents existed, and the siblings held different assumptions about what belonged to whom.
What We Did
Household Inventory Session followed by Document Cataloging
We completed a full inventory session covering all significant household objects, then a document cataloging project covering property papers, financial account records, and insurance documents. Both printed outputs were handed to the siblings jointly.
Outcome
A shared reference the three siblings could agree on
With a written inventory and document catalog in hand, the household's contents were distributed over the following three months without significant dispute. The siblings kept copies of both printed outputs.
"Having something written down, that we all agreed was accurate, changed everything about how we approached the conversation."
Challenge
A household with no document filing system across 25 years
A retired couple living in Cheras had accumulated 25 years of documents — employment records, property papers, pension correspondence, and household account statements — distributed across several rooms with no consistent organization.
What We Did
Document Cataloging Project across three sessions
Three sessions over seven weeks. We worked through each room systematically, identifying document categories and building a catalog that reflected the actual shape of the household's records rather than a predetermined structure.
Outcome
A single archival folder the household can navigate independently
The couple now keeps all documents in one archival folder with labeled dividers matching the printed catalog. They can find any category of document in under two minutes. Their children know where the folder is kept.
"It sounds simple now, but we had never been able to find all our papers in one place before. We should have done it twenty years ago."
Challenge
Keeping an active household record current across the year
A household in Mont Kiara that had completed a Household Inventory Session wanted to keep their record up to date as objects entered and left the household through purchase, sale, and inheritance.
What We Did
Annual Inventory Refresh — now in its third year
Four quarterly visits each year. Each visit updates the existing inventory with additions and removes items that have left the household. The printed annual booklet gives a snapshot of the household's holdings at year-end.
Outcome
A three-year running record of household possessions
The household has a booklet for each of the three years they have been on the programme. Items distributed to family members are noted in the year-end summary. The record has become part of how the household manages itself.
"I did not expect to find the quarterly visits as useful as they are. Having a reason to review what we hold is actually good discipline."
